Joan of Arc (1412-1431) was a teenager when Saint Michael the Archangel, patron of France, appeared to her with an incredible message: "Daughter of God, go save France!" Three years later, at the urging of several more saints, sixteen-year-old Joan set out to defend the French city of Orleans against the attacking English army in the Hundred Years' War. With a banner bearing the names of Jesus and Mary, Joan led the French to victory—but at great personal cost. After being captured and sold to the British, Joan was imprisoned, falsely charged with witchcraft and heresy, and burned at the stake. She was nineteen years old. Get to know the remarkable woman who didn't back down from doing what was right, no matter what others said, with the courage that made her a saint and a legend.
