The story of the first United States citizen to be declared a saint! Young Cecchina always dreamed of becoming a missionary. When her poor health made it difficult for her to enter a religious community, an Italian bishop asked her to start a new congregation. The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart was born, and Cecchina became Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini: an unstoppable woman who left her country, culture, and language behind to serve Italian immigrants in America; found schools, hospitals, and homes for children; and travel around the world to help her growing congregation. Meet Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917), a key figure in the history of the American Church whose trust in the Sacred Heart of Jesus made her childhood dream—and the dreams of countless others—come true. This exciting story is authoritatively written by two Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
