Her words echo to us in the twenty-first century: "Today, I stood with you beneath the cross."

St. Edith Stein's relationship with God made possible her greatest achievements-her ability to stun crowded lecture halls with her academic prowess to remaining a source of hope within the confines of a Nazi concentration camp. Born into a Jewish family, at an early age Stein chose to become an atheist. Going on to achieve scholarly success in the field of philosophy, she battles a harassing spiritual void, finding peace once she embraced the Catholic faith.

In this latest portrait of Edith Stein, she continues to carry divine life to the current generation, inviting readers to know and emulate her saving grace: her spirituality. Author Dianne Traflet explores its three pillars: the Eucharist, which enabled her to receive and extend God's love; the Blessed Mother, who taught her to obey the call to serve; and the cross, which gave her the courage to live Christ's example, suffering to save other, even to the point of death. The result is a biography that is both an inspiration and a spiritual journey.

Dianne Marie Traflet, J.D., S.T.D., is Associate Dean and Professor of Pastoral Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University, New Jersey. The founder and co-director of the Seminary's Institute for Christian Spirituality, Dr. Traflet received her J.D. from Seton Hall and her M.A. in Catholic Theology from St. John's University, New York. She then earned a licentiate and a doctorate in Sacred Theology at St. Thomas Aquinas University (the Angelicum), Rome, focusing on the life and work of St. Edith Stein.

"This is a fine introduction to St. Edith Stein as a model for us in the art of 'living at God's hand.' That was her method, her way and her source of courage and holiness. Even after forty years of learning from St. Edith, I found this book very interesting and informative."
Sr. Josephine Koeppel, OCD, Author of Edith Stein, Philosopher and Mystic, and translator of St. Edith's works, including Life in a Jewish Family, The Science of the Cross, and Self-Portrait in Letters: 1916-1942

"Dr. Dianne Traflet's new book on Saint Edith Stein is perfect reading for a private retreat. Not only is there insightful biographical information included, but Dr. Traflet reveals the deeper meanings and sources of this unique saint's conversion to Christianity and her superior intellectual understanding of the doctrines and values of Catholicism. Even as she faced capture and death at the hands of the Nazis, Edith Stein believed and lived the teachings of her church in a way that can inspire all. An excellent book, very readable and portable."
