"This little books of prayers was written in prison. Though I was alone and seemed to have nothing at all, I had love of faithful friends who were praying for me. And I had the love of Christ in my heart.

In gratitude for that love, I wrote these prayers on scraps of paper the prison guards gave me. They are a remembrance of that time when I seemed poor, but when I was actually very rich, for love can do all things."

Cardinal Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan was imprisoned in Vietnam for thirteen years, and then expelled from Vietnam. "Beautifully written conversation with God about the things that matter. Cardinal Thuan's prison experience speaks to the power of God to sustain,to transform and to empower despite our sense of abandonment. He shares his experience of a personal conection with God in a simple and refreshingly non-pious, non-clerical fashion. Written as a series of 90 short reflections, the reader is not overwhelmed by words and can actually spend time relating it to their own experience. I would recommend this book to any person who has struggled or searched in the silence of their own life."
